Finding a Job

resumeLet’s face it, it is a challenge to find a job in today’s economy. Unemployment is up and the markets are down, a sour mix for the unemployed worker.

Our site looks to add information for those who are willing to organize, be open and do the work to find a job.

It is not easy to stay motivated and focused on the end goal. If you are head of household, it is even more important to buckle up and find a way to generate income. Scan our posts and pages… it may help.

If you are looking for a great resume writing system, take a look at this site. A little cheesy, but it may be what you are looking for.

If you are like many people on the verge of losing your job or are already among the unemployed, it may be prudent to evaluate your résume from a different perspective…

The typical résume includes sections on job experience, objectives and goals. These sections will certainly contain your basic information from your current and past positions, but what about style, format and the overall content of your message ? Are you just reviving the tired old résume and adding a couple bullets here, a word or two there, before sending it to the job search gods hoping to get past the typical 30 second review?

Are you using the same old tired format you used when you landed your first job 20 years ago? Why not, it served you well over the decades. This approach is like putting “Lipstick on Pig” without really re-evaluating the overall marketability of the document that will compete amongst thousands or even millions of other résumes in the vast abyss of the internet!

Times have changed, the market is fierce and competition is continually growing. It is said the current economic climate provides 1 job for every 4 candidates on the street. This ratio is getting worse as new college graduates enter the market and unemployment continues to rise…. How does your résume stack up? Is it kind of like the “Dry Rye Hoagie” that is difficult to swallow, with no real taste or appeal?

Have you chosen the basic courier type 10 font with spaces for indents and basic lines and structure that your dad did 40 years before? Does the grammar make sense? Have you adjusted the language so it crisper, fresher and is understood by someone under the age of 30?

You may need to revisit the old standby and apply a new style, something that says you are experienced, but are willing to adapt. Something that speaks to your level of maturity and professionalism but not present a stodgy old school feel. Remember, your résume is your marketing representative and tells a great deal about you through not only the content, but through structure, presentation and style.

You need every advantage you can get within today’s market. Instead of blowing the dust off the old crusty document you used 10 years before and adding newer job titles and certifications, consider employing a résume writing service.  These services employ professional writers who have insight into successful application of techniques of writing styles that appeal to the hiring manager or recruiter of today.

Re-valuation of your résume is a prudent step toward ensuring you are presenting yourself in a fresh new light that can put you at the top of the pile.

Best wishes,
