Conceiving a Baby Girl through Gender Selection

PGD, Microsort or Ericsson

Partners trying to conceive a baby usually have a preference on the gender they would like to have. Most couples publicly do not care as long as the baby is healthy and without issues, but privately may have a preference.

Guys have visions of playing ball with their son or seeing them playing quarterback for the local High school football team.  Women may prefer a little girl to dress up in cute little outfits and have a shopping partner when they are older.

Of course, it does not always work out this way and the chances of getting the gender you want is 50/50. There are options available to help put the odds in your favor when it comes to getting the gender you prefer. Old myths and wives tales include positions, timing and diet to help give the couple a better chance in getting the boy or girl they are seeking.
In addition, science has added to the tools made available that can assist the couple in choosing the sex of their baby prior to conception. The following methods are the most popular when human interaction is used:

1.    PGD or Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis is the concept of testing a fertilized embryo before implantation into the womb. This method is the most successful but is ethically not used for gender selection based on preference. Usually this technique is used to select an embryo based on preventing hereditary disease from being propagated to future generations.

2.    Sperm Spinning  is a another technique that can help determine the sex of your baby. A popular company essentially has a way to separate male sperm from the female variety to be implanted during the IVF procedure. Although considered less effective, it is a popular method used across the country.

3.     Another process used actually uses a dye compound that identifies the X or Y chromosome laden sperm. Once the specific DNA count is identified, a sorting process is conducted to separate the X from the Y versions and used during the IVF process. Again, the process is not 100% but can tip the scales in favor of the preferred sex.

In summary, conceiving a baby boy or girl is usually left to natural selection, but our society does have the technology to help nature along. Each couple who decides to have a baby will need to determine their needs and budget if they want to utilize science in selecting a specific gender.
