Review for Season One:
Such a simple idea–yet so fiendishly complex in the execution. 24, as surely everyone knows by now, is a thriller that takes places over 24 hours, midnight to midnight, in 24 one-hour episodes (well, 45-minute episodes if you subtract the commercials). Everything takes place in real time, which means no flashbacks, no flash-forwards, no handy time-dissolves. Every strand of the plot has to be dovetailed and interlocked so things happen just when they should, in the right amount of time. Not that easy.
Creator Robert Cochran and his team of writers and directors have done an impressive job of putting the jigsaw together and keeping the tension ratcheted up high, as federal agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) runs around L.A. trying to stall an assassination attempt on an African American presidential candidate and rescue his wife and daughter from the clutches of the Balkan baddies. Twists, turns, revelations, and cliffhangers are tossed at us with satisfying regularity. It’s not perfect: we get some hokey plot devices (instant amnesia, anybody?); the final twist makes no sense whatsoever; there are altogether too many huggy family moments; and as for Dennis Hopper’s “Serbian” accent….
Even so, this is undeniably mold-breaking TV. Sutherland, rescuing his career from the doldrums in one heroic leap, fully deserves his Golden Globe. Sets and locations are artfully deployed, and Sean Callery’s score is a powerful, brooding presence. Like Murder One and The Sopranos, 24
is one of those series that future TV thrillers will be measured against. –Philip Kemp
Review for Season Two:
Jack Bauer is having another one of his “very bad days” in the second season of the groundbreaking real-time thriller 24. Once again the hours are ticking by with more guaranteed cliffhangers than a convention of mountain climbers. Holed up in a Los Angeles condo and estranged from his daughter, Jack is no longer on the government payroll; unfortunately for him, this small fact doesn’t seem to matter to President David Palmer and the NSA, who call him back in to the CTU and give him 24 hours to infiltrate a terrorist organization that is planning to detonate a dirty bomb in the city of angels. All Jack wants is to get his daughter out of the city, unfortunately Kim’s new employer, the abusive father of the child she is nannying, has other ideas.
Fans of the original won’t be disappointed, as there are more than enough shock moments in the first few hours to hint at the climactic build-up to come, while newcomers can quickly get involved in the lives of Jack and his family. There are some new characters to bolster the veteran cast and, interestingly (although not surprisingly), Jack’s character has taken an altogether darker, more psychopathic turn. The danger the characters find themselves in also has a much more global, not to mention topical, impetus, grounded as it is in the war against terrorism. Although the territory is more familiar this time around, this second season is just as much a high-tension, taut, adrenalin-fuelled ride as the first, and one that will have you glued to your TV for the next 24 hours. –Kristen Bowditch

I liked 24 when it was on TV and now I can see the whole thing at my own pace. There is one problem with my set. In order to get to the next segment, I have to open/close the dvd before I can move on. That is unless I am doing something wrong with my remote. Other than that, I am very pleased with the set.

If there was anything wrong with my package, the sender is more than willing to fix it! My package got lost by the post office and the sender sent me out another one the next day through priority mail! The DVD’s are in great condition!
5.0 out of 5 stars Got my Jack Bauer fix!, September 19, 2011
Bought this DVD set and watching it again from the beginning. Feels like a different era watching the first few seasons even though it wasn’t that many years ago! Can’t wait for the movie (I hope there’s one coming).

24 is one of the most EPIC TV series ever!
The box set itself is in a very clean and attractive packaging and each individual season is individually packaged (which I liked), so each season can be taken with you somewhere instead of having to lug the entire set around if you wanted to watch some episodes somewhere else.
All around I would totally recommend this series and the box set is the best way to get everything included in one nice little package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughts About The Series 24, September 6, 2011
This review is from: 24: The Complete Series (DVD
This is by far the greatest television series of the 21 century. The story lines are gripping, the plots are imaginative and action is simply heart-stopping. Loyal 24 fans were crushed when that clock count down to 0:00 in the series finale. We all had a blank stare when the screen faded to black. It took a while to sink in that it was really over. The show plowed the road through alot of the foolishness that the networks put on TV these day especially in prime time. I had not been this excited about watching TV since the X-Files on Friday nights. I expeditiously tuned in Monday nights and my entire household knew that I would be checked out for those 60 minutes. I was hooked like fish, anxiously anticipating the events that would unfold in every hour. The chemisty of the cast was a well blended mixture of talented performers who commanded the screen and sucked us in to the world of CTU. Now, I watch 24 any chance I get and I cannot imagine another TV series that come close to the experience that was created for us from 2001-2010. What a timeless piece of work. I can see myself sitting on my couch in years to come loading up my relick of a DVD player so that I sit back and enjoy a few hours of 24 DVD . I don’t know if other popular TV series of yesteryear or future ones will have the same lasting effect but Kiefer Sutherland and his writers won the World Series, the Superbowl, the Stanley Cup, the Masters, the NBA playoffs, Wimbledon, the Tour de France and an Olympic Gold Medal with this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant. Fox makes best TV show series ever., August 3, 2011
This review is from: 24: The Complete Series (DVD
This show was gripping and mind blowing. I felt like Jack watching most episodes and even owning the game for a while and trying to solve each and every case while following all the sub stories as well. It was brilliantly written and done acting wise and special effects etc. I now can say that I own the entire 8 season boxed set with all 8 seasons and the bonus dvds and made for TV movie as well. Hopefully the theater movie comes out soon and all these go to the Blu Ray+ DVD + DVD COPY type deal with even more bonus materials etc. and behind the scenes etc. type stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Completely Satisfied Now!, August 1, 2011
This review is from: 24: The Complete Series (DVD
When I originally purchased this product, it took me several months to watch all of DVDs. In the end, I had eight problem disks that would either freeze up, skip ahead, had an episode that would not play, and one even had the words written across the screen in the last episode. (Very annoying if you do not need them. It keeps your attention away from the picture!) I contacted Amazon, and even though it had been three to four months since I had ordered this product, they still sent a new complete set to me. I watched the copies of the new disks that matched the old ones with problems, and they were all fine. I replaced those disks in my set with the new ones, and sent the second product back. Amazon reimbursed me for all my shipping costs and everything. I am now very pleased with this purchase. The video and audio on this set is of excellent quality. But then, I figure if I am going to pay $200 for something, it should be perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have., July 8, 2011
This review is from: 24: The Complete Series (DVD
I only paid one hundred dollars for this entire series as part of a Best Buy special, and it was a great purchase. My only gripe, if there is one, is the extreme lag time between each episode and the need to regurgitate the previous show in the beginning where just skipping the first scene does not work because the episode starts in the first scene. There should have been an option to eliminate the countdown delays in between scenes also.
I’ve only watched seasons 7 and 8 on TV. Therefore, I am now plowing through all the early seasons and losing a lot of sleep because of this. I may have to rewatch a lot of the scenes since the DVD offers a lot of deleted scenes and those with commentary too. An incredible deal for the price I paid.

Jack Bauer — extremely intelligent, imaginative, bold, and incredibly tenacious. 24 was simply the most exciting television show ever! Can’t wait to get the complete series on Blu-ray.
