Fast, Automatic 12-Volt Battery Charging
By combining conventional battery charging technology with state-of-the-art circuitry, the Schumacher SSC-1000A Ship ‘N’ Shore SpeedCharge Charger offers greater versatility, speed of charging and convenience than ever before seen in a battery charger. The charger features an easy-to-use and monitor digital readout on which three output current rates are selectable: 2-amps, 6-amps and 10-amps. The readout also allows for the selection of battery type being charged: standard, AGM or gell cell; and provides data on based on quarter percentages of a full charge that is stored and voltage present at the poles of a charging battery. All these features and data are hightened by the prescence of a powerful microprocessor at the heart of the unit.
The microprocessor of the Schumacher SSC-1000A Ship ‘N’ Shore SpeedCharge Charger monitors the attached battery’s voltage level from the moment it is connected, using this ever-changing data to improve the charging system’s multi-stage charging cycle. Multi-stage charging allows a battery charger to automatically cycle, between a variety of charging phases including desulphation, bulk charging, absorbtion, monitoring, float mode and a minimal drip charge maintain mode when a connected battery again falls below a certain set level. The microprocessor collected data is especially important in this cycle in that with it the SSC-1000A can more accurately measure the charging needs of a connected battery, resulting in quicker charge times and a lessened chance of damage due to overcharging.
2-Amp, 6-Amp and 10-Amp Charging Rates
An additional key to the speed with which the Schumacher SSC-1000A Ship ‘N’ Shore SpeedCharge Charger works is its three available charging rates: 2-amp, 6-amp and 10-amp. By allowing users to choose the best rate for the right battery type and charging needed, the SSC-1000A is able to better supply exactly the right level of charge, at the right time in the charging cycle to get quick results and maintain connected batteries at their proper levels. Details on the three available charging rates include:
- 10-amp Fast Charge – Charger monitors battery condition and adjusts charge rate to prevent battery damage; for car, truck, marine, RV, farm equipment, AGM, gel cell and deep-cycle batteries.
- 6-amp Medium Charge – A self-adjusting charge rate for everyday charging needs and keeping your battery in peak condition.
- 2-amp Slow Charge – A gentle trickle charge for charging and maintaining small batteries; charges motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile and lawn tractor batteries.

This is one handy little powerhouse and so far works well.
A few days ago I went mounted the mower and hit the go button and it just sat there, deader than the proverbial doorknob. Now that’s fantastic. No more mowing. Tried telling that to the yard but laughter pursued with vigor. Amazon was kind enough to send the Schumacher 1000A and in a few days I was ready to try again. After reading the manual and seeing how compact and well made the charger is I hooked it up and in a short time it was grass cutting time again.
My initial reaction was that the size was considerably smaller than I expected compared to the picture on Amazon. The box it fits in sits well on a handy shelf and is ready for its next use. The plastic covering at first left me wondering why did they not use metal and it dawned on me that the metal could be a problem if the hot clips came in contact with it. Heavy duty plastic is far better for me. After setting the parameters which were simple to do I attached the clips to my battery and it started charging. Expecting the charge to take over an hour I waited and in less than an hour it was ready. With a turn of the key the mower started as if it were new and I can only thank Schumacher. And I do. Now the key is the next time and the next time. Will it be the powerhouse I originally purchased and will it work with other batteries such as the truck’s? As other events take place, I’ll revise my comments accordingly. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

After having the Schumacher SSC-1000A charger for a little over a month now, I am VERY pleased. I have charged 4 heavy duty batteries and a few smaller ones, too. The charger doesn’t get hot, even at the 10A charge setting which I used on one of the big batteries for a quick charge. The unit is light in weight, but it is well built. This is the best deal for a higher power smart charger I have ever seen and I’m glad I found the Schumacher. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

My old Sears battery charger that I had for over 30 years went belly up after a leak in my shed gave it a good soaking before I realized it. I did a lot of shopping and comparing on Amazon for a new charger. I am very happy with the Schumacher charger. It is very simple to use and instructions are plain and simple. I like to know the percentage of battery charged when charging and like it that the charger shuts down when finished charging. I use it for my vehicles to keep batteries fresh especially when the vehicles are used on a lot of short trips and don’t get a chance to fully charge. When winter rolls around, because the charger is so easy to use, I’ll let it trickle charge batteries so they stay fresh and can crank to their full capacity when the temps drop to the teens or below here in the piedmont area of North Carolina. It’s a good unit at a good price and it arrived three days sooner than I expected. Plenty of pros and no cons
