| I received these as a Chrismas gift from my in-laws and just put them to the test on a 5-day hunt. The noise amplification is very good. So good, in fact, that if you turn them all the way up you'll be shouldering your rifle every 15 seconds to prepare for that big buck...which turns out to be a chipmunk. The directionality of the sound is superb. It only took me a few minutes to get used to it. The only problem I see with detecting the direction a sound is coming from is when the object is either directly in front of you or directly behind you...it's pretty difficult to figure out which unless you turn your head by about 15 degrees. But I would say that between 12:30 and 5:30 and between 6:30 and 11:30 it is unbelievably easy to determine the direction of the sound. As for muzzle blast suppression, I shoot a Browning 7mag with a BOSS system that usually leaves my ears ringing for 2 days. With these muffs, the 2 shots I made were still audible of course, but were reduced to a bearable range. I could even hear to brag to my hunting buddies when I got back to camp with my big 6 point and 30 pound bobcat...which, by the way, I would never have detected without the hearing amplification of the muffs. A great product all around...at any price. I'd recommend them to anyone. |

How to Prevent Noise Induced Hearing Loss
Losing your hearing can be a very traumatic experience. Hearing loss can happen sudden due to trauma or over a long period of time. The causes can vary from infection, head trauma and even old age. However, one of the major factors that can cause hearing loss is also the most preventable; Noise induced hearing loss.
Loud music, operating construction machinery and other types of piercing noises can be devastating to your auditory senses. Prevention of noise induced hearing loss is mostly common sense but unfortunately more and more people suffer today’s society, especially with the popularity of portable music and gaming devices.
It is very common for individuals to expose themselves to thunderous sounds through technology based devices which over time can be a serious threat due to long term exposure. Individuals that operate deafening machinery like chainsaws, jackhammers or are constantly exposed to industrial equipment must protect their hearing. With the use of preventive tools like electronic earmuffs or earplugs, damage to the ear can be greatly reduced.
Electronic earmuffs are handy little devices that utilize noise cancelling technology to actually reduce or completely shut off the noise that surpass the 82db threshold. This in turn allows the environmental sounds that barrage your ears to be maintained at safe levels. In addition, these devices will amplify low level noises such as conversations and subtle background sounds to help the operator to comfortably wear them continuously in changing environments.
In some of the newer models you can even connect your music device or phone to an auxiliary jack making them even more practical and user friendly.
In summary, whether you are using a jackhammer or shooting pistols at the range, protective gear for your ears is a must. Remember that noise induced hearing loss is totally preventable with common sense and the right protection.
