Attack of the Aphids – Seek and Destroy!

Courtesy of thebeneficialinsectco.com

Aphids are voracious pests that can come in many colors; green, yellow, brown, red, or black depending on the species and the plants they are dining on. A few appear to have a shiny sheen or seen as hairy insects due to the waxy white or gray substance they secretion that cover their body.

They are very small, pear-shaped with noticeably long legs and antennae reaching from the heads. Most varieties have tubes protruding toward the back of their bodies. These “cornicles” distinguishes aphids from all other insects.

The best natural predator for these feisty pests are the common ladybug, which feed on their larvae. Good luck and God Speed..
